Coconut - The Nature’s Basket

Coconut is a versatile gift of nature that can give a range of value-added products. Below are the main by-products that get produced by Green Valley after oil extraction.

Coconut Shell

Left behind at the early stage of our processes, coconut shells play a significant role in leading a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle. They are durable, bump-resistant, compostable, and biodegradable. It can be recycled and polished to be used as food bowls, candle holders, planters, or as part of home decors. Charcoal made from the shells are used abundantly as a domestic and industrial fuel.

Coconut Oil Cake

Coconut oil cake (called ‘thenga pinakku’ in malayalam), the by-product of oil extraction, is the residue left after the mechanical extraction of the greater part of the oil from copra. It consists mainly of fiber, 20% protein, and 10% oil which can further be recovered through the solvent extraction process. While it can be used as manure for plants, it is mainly procured to be used as cattle feed due to its rich mineral content.

Low fat desiccated coconut powder

Low fat desiccated coconut powder is the by-product left behind from VCO extraction from coconut milk of fully matured kernels. It is fresh, fully dehydrated and free from musty odour, infestation, shell, test, or any foreign matter with a shelf life of 2 years. It is used as an ingredient in savoury and sweet recipes, as topping in breakfast bowls, salads, soup, cookies, sauteed vegetables and also added in chutney, fritters and pattice etc. It is delicious enough to be eaten by itself.
